VET re-entry following termination of an apprenticeship contract in the Canton of Zur-ich: Analysis of premature dropout from apprenticeships in 2008 and 2009

Commissioned by the Canton of Zurich’s Office for General and Vocational Education, this project focuses on all young people who prematurely terminated their apprenticeship contract in the Canton of Zurich in 2008 and 2009. The aim is to determine whether (and if so, how quickly) these young people were able to re-enrol in a VET programme within three years after premature dropout. The study also examines whether any differences exist between young men and women as well as between young people with a migration background and those of Swiss origin.

The project is designed as a follow-up study of Dr. Evi Schmid’s analysis of premature drop-pout from apprenticeships in the Canton of Zurich in 2007. In order to determine whether the re-entry rates into VET after premature dropout have changed, the findings for 2007, 2008 and 2009 will be compared systematically.
