Zollikofen, 24.11.2017 – The appeal of dual-track vocational education and training in Germany and Switzerland was the focus of an expert workshop organised by the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) and the German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). This workshop was held in Zollikofen on 23 and 24 November 2017.

Expertenworkshop BIBB
SFIVET

Under the aegis of BIBB President, Professor Esser, SFIVET Board Chairman, Dr. Gnaegi, and SFIVET Director, Professor Dr. Oertle, experts from the two institutes exchanged views on the challenges of dual vocational training. In particular, the aim was to develop action steps to maintain the appeal of dual-track VET. Discussions focussed mainly on the topics of permeability, digitalisation, migration and the validation of informal learning. The two vocational education and training systems are based on the same principles. However, while the numbers of learners in Switzerland have remained relatively stable over the past few years, learners in Germany have tended to move more towards academic pathways. Joint follow-up activities were identified to further develop cooperation.
