Immerse yourself in the day-to-day experience of workplace training. This interactive exhibition is based on the results of several sociological studies conducted by the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET). It uses facts, figures and testimonials to describe the real-life situations of apprentices and on-the-job trainers and also highlights some of the main challenges of workplace training. By following the full progression of a VET programme, visitors gain insight into how the knowledge and know-how associated with a given occupation are passed on to the next generation of workers and how future professionals are ‘made’.
The exhibition will be shown at various trade fairs and was made possible thanks to support from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and Loterie romande. It is intended primarily for pupils who wish to find out more about Swiss dual-track VET programmes so that they are better prepared to enter this new world. The exhibition is also intended for those who will be accompanying young people at the exhibition (teachers, parents) as well as for workplace trainers and professional organisations. As such, it serves as a source of information and reflection.
Various tools are available to prepare for the visit and/or guide visitors: a website offering in-depth information and documents, an educational file, and exhibition pamphlet. Finally, various activities will be proposed such as guided tours, symposiums, round table meetings and discussions.
