Federal Vocational Baccalaureate: Admission, Career Paths and Prospects

Reinforcing the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate (FVB) is a strategic objective of the Federal Administration and is part of the VPET 2030 Strategy. The Swiss Observatory for Vocational Education and Training (OBS SFIVET) will address this important topic at the third national conference on current FVB trends and challenges.

This year’s national conference will be held in Bern on 29 October 2020. On this occasion, OBS SFIVET will present its latest trend report along with FVB research findings and discuss these findings with representatives of the Confederation, the cantons and professional organisations as well as with other stakeholders.

The presentations address various topics: the development of the FVB in the cantons and occupational fields; host companies’ cost-benefit assessment of the FVB in parallel to the apprenticeship; the career and education trajectories of FVB alumni; the motivations of apprentices to prepare for the FVB and their corresponding expectations.

Two panel discussions will focus on ways to encourage companies to offer apprentices the opportunity to prepare for the FVP in parallel to their apprenticeship. They will further address  the various challenges affecting the FVB and possible steps to develop it further. The detailed conference programme and additional information are available on this page.
